Sales Info

You love your RV — but let’s be honest, you’re done with it. Maybe you’ve upgraded, maybe life changed, or maybe it’s just sitting in your driveway collecting dust and HOA complaints. So you decide to sell. And then the fun begins: strangers who want to “just take a look” and never show up, lowball offers that insult your intelligence, and the constant back-and-forth with people who have no intention of buying. Selling an RV on your own is a part-time job nobody signed up for. That’s exactly why RV consignment exists — and why more and more owners are choosing it over the DIY headache.

What Is RV Consignment?

RV consignment is simple: you bring your RV to a trusted dealer, and they handle the entire sales process for you. They evaluate your unit, set a competitive price, market it to buyers, handle showings and negotiations, and close the deal. When it sells, you get your payout minus a commission fee. That’s it.

Think of it like hiring a real estate agent for your RV. You’re not handing over ownership — you still own the vehicle until it sells. You’re just handing over the work. The dealer takes on the marketing, buyer screening, paperwork, and all the time-consuming back-and-forth that makes private selling such a grind. RV consignment lets you step back and let professionals do what they do best while you get on with your life.

RV Consignment vs. Selling It Yourself

Let’s break this down honestly, because there are trade-offs either way.

Selling it yourself gives you full control and means you keep 100% of the sale price. But that control comes at a cost. You’re responsible for creating listings, taking photos, fielding calls and messages, scheduling showings with strangers (often at your home), negotiating price, handling paperwork, and dealing with financing questions you may not know how to answer. It can take months. And the safety factor is real — inviting unknown buyers to see a high-value asset isn’t something to take lightly.

RV consignment trades a percentage of the sale for something valuable: your time, your peace of mind, and often a better final price. A good consignment dealer knows the market, knows how to present your RV, and has access to buyer networks you don’t. They handle tire-kickers so you don’t have to. They know how to close. And because the RV is stored at their facility, you’re not dealing with strangers showing up at your house.

For most owners, consignment wins — especially if your RV has been sitting on Facebook Marketplace for weeks with nothing but spam messages to show for it.

How Journey USA RV Handles Consignment

At Journey USA RV, we’ve been helping RV owners sell their units since 2017. We’re a family-owned operation — founded and run by Bill Hughes and his son Bryce — and we treat every consignment owner the way we’d want to be treated: with transparency, straight talk, and zero runaround. While we’re based in Tampa, Florida, we work with RV owners from across the country — so no matter where you are, give us a call and we’ll walk you through the process.

Here’s how the process works. You bring your RV to our Tampa facility at 9610 E. US Hwy 92. Our in-house RV mechanic — who has over 10 years of experience — performs a professional inspection so we know exactly what we’re working with. We evaluate the unit’s condition and market value, then we list it across multiple platforms with professional marketing materials. We handle every inquiry, every showing, and every negotiation. When it sells, you get paid. Simple.

What sets us apart is that we’re not just a sales lot. We’re an active RV rental and storage operation, which means your RV gets eyes on it from renters, storage customers, and walk-in traffic — not just online browsers. And because we have a full-service repair shop on-site, we can address minor issues that might otherwise scare off buyers. That’s a real advantage most consignment dealers can’t offer.

We also offer free storage for your RV during the listing period, so you’re not paying out of pocket just to have it sit somewhere while it sells. If you need RV storage in Tampa beyond the consignment period, we offer that too at competitive monthly rates.

What Makes a Good Consignment RV?

Not every RV is a great fit for consignment, so here’s what sells well and what doesn’t.

Units that do well are generally in good mechanical and cosmetic condition, have a clean title, are priced realistically for the market, and fall into popular categories — Class C motorhomes, well-maintained travel trailers, and newer Class A units tend to move. RVs with recent maintenance records and no major mechanical issues are the easiest to sell because buyers feel confident in what they’re getting.

Units that struggle are those with significant mechanical problems, heavy cosmetic damage, outdated interiors with no updates, or unrealistic pricing. An RV with a blown engine and a stained interior is going to be a tough sell at any price. That said, our mechanic can often address smaller issues affordably before listing, which can make a big difference in how fast your unit moves.

If you’re not sure where your RV falls, just give us a call. We’ll give you an honest assessment — no pressure, no obligation.

Frequently Asked Questions

How long does RV consignment take?

It depends on the unit, the price, and the market. Some RVs sell within weeks, others take a few months. We price competitively and market aggressively to move units as quickly as possible, but we’ll never pressure you into accepting an offer that doesn’t make sense.

What is the commission fee?

Journey USA RV charges a commission of 10% of the final sale price or $1,000, whichever is greater. That covers our marketing, showings, inspections, storage during the listing period, and all the buyer management from start to finish.

Can I still use my RV during consignment?

This is something we handle on a case-by-case basis. Generally, we recommend keeping the RV available for showings to maximize your chances of a quick sale. If you need to use it for a planned trip, just talk to us and we’ll work something out.

What if my RV doesn’t sell?

If your RV doesn’t sell within the agreement term, no commission is owed. Either party can cancel the agreement with written notice, and we’ll return the RV to you — no hard feelings. We want this to work for you as much as you do.

Whether you’re upgrading, downsizing, or just ready to move on, RV consignment with Journey USA RV is the easiest way to sell your RV without the stress. We’re a family business that’s been doing this for over eight years, and we’d love to help you get your unit sold.

We also proudly offer a 10% discount for military members and first responders across all of our services — it’s our way of saying thank you.
